It happens in a flash. You're walking through a parking lot.Or waiting in line.Or just stepping outside…
Then suddenly—someone grabs you from behind.
At the Christian Taekwondo League, we teach our students that panic is never the plan. Preparation is.
Let’s walk through how awareness and training can help you escape a surprise attack.
👀 Step 1: Stay Calm and Ground Yourself
When someone grabs you from behind, their goal is usually to:
Control you
Drag you
Surprise and confuse you
Your first move:✅ Drop your weight – Bend your knees and lower your center of gravity✅ Don’t struggle wildly – That wastes energy and gives them control✅ Get your footing – It helps you stabilize and prepare to counter
🗣️ Step 2: Use Your Voice
Don’t stay quiet!Yell something like:
“LET GO!” or “STOP!”
This draws attention, alerts others nearby, and can startle your attacker. We teach our students to speak loud and clear—because your voice is one of your first weapons.
💥 Step 3: Strike to Create Space
Now that you’re grounded and using your voice, it’s time to create space.Depending on how you’re grabbed:
👣 Stomp on their foot
💪 Elbow to their ribs or stomach
🧠 Head butt backward (if safe and controlled)
🌀 Twist and turn out of the grip
The goal is not to fight, but to escape.
Every move is about getting free and getting away—fast.
🧠 Step 4: Train Before It Happens
The most important part? Don’t wait until it happens to figure it out.
At CTL, we train these scenarios:
Bear hugs from behind
Arm locks
Wrist grabs
Pushes and pulls
Our students practice with purpose, so their response becomes automatic.Confidence doesn’t come from luck—it comes from training.
✝️ Stay Wise, Stay Strong
God gives us a spirit of power, not fear. When we stay alert and ready, we move with clarity—even when the situation is unclear.
“The prudent see danger and take refuge…” – Proverbs 27:12
🎯 Final Thought
Getting grabbed from behind is scary—but with awareness, voice, and trained action, you can take control of the moment.
✅ Stay calm✅ Speak up✅ Create space✅ Get to safety✅ Get home alive
Train now—because confidence isn’t built in the moment… it’s built long before.
